Chamber Spotlight

Gary H. Tatum, CEOSunday, July 12, 2009

What used to be the “Business Beat” has now become “Chamber Spotlight.” Yes a new name and a new location. After appearing in our local newspaper for many years we have now moved in with the Grapevine. We will have our monthly column as well as calendar and be able to highlight our new client/members. Suzanne Clark of the Grapevine met with us in early July and we came to a happy agreement.

The column will remain basically the same as I write and report about what impacts our business community, both good and not so good. Hopefully our faithful readers will find us here in the Grapevine and continue to keep abreast of just how your Vacaville Chamber continues to support business and promote our community.

The Chamber embarked on a new fiscal year as of July 1 and we are already off and running. We anticipate still providing a high level of service to our business clients as well as the remainder of the business community.

Those of you who have been client/members know just how much your Chamber has accomplished over the years. For the remainder of you that have not sought us out we would welcome the opportunity to discuss benefits of membership.

Our staff stands ready to continue working for you, the business entrepreneurs who make our nation great. In this current period of economic uncertainty and political skullduggery it is all the more important to have an ally such as your Chamber.

We are ready to take on any level of government that creates roadblocks to the success of our businesses. Keeping an eye on legislation emanating from both Sacramento and Washington DC is something we believe to be vitally important. Trying to encourage individuals who are pro-business to seek either appointed or elected positions is also critical to our ability to survive.

Such is the case with the upcoming special election to replace Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher of the 10th Congressional District. We now have an opportunity to send someone to Washington who understands the needs of the business community. Hopefully a person that can stand up against the erosion of our freedoms while government continues to grow at a cost to We the People that has and is becoming obscene. The 10th District will need a person that can assist in bringing down spiraling costs and a withdrawal from our slippery slope toward increased taxation.

Your Chamber will be conducting a forum for the candidates running for Congress and representing those of us in the 10th Congressional District. It will be held on a date to be announced in August. The location will be Travis Credit Union’s Community Room at #1 Travis Way here in Vacaville
